Richard Edghill made his Premiership debut at 17 and was soon an England Under-21 international. A pacy defender who could play anywhere across the back four, he caught the eye of England manager Terry Venables; but a devastating knee injury then sidelined him for 21 months, by which time his beloved Manchester City were headed for the third division.
