The classic source on Hexerei or witchcraft, including the magical side of Hexology the metaphysics of painting Hex Signs. Lee R. Gandee shines like a beacon in Pa German Folk magic. The book is out of print, available used only, no idea why..... Although it takes place in South Carolina it read like it was my own Berks County, Pa.

Lee Gandee was my great uncle- my grandfather's brother. this is a bizarre book. I have the copy he signed for my grandfather. A true family treasure.
The autobiography of a man who spent his life studying folklore and practicing the art of Braucherei. It contains lots of anecdotes, ghost-stories, and conjecture based on the author's psychic abilities.
I was surprised about the author's frank discussion of his sexuality (without being vulgar) and his love for another man. If you're looking for specific spells, rituals, and procedures look elsewhere.

Fascinating memoir about a man raised as a hexenmeister in the Pennsylvania Dutch tradition. He also writes about his life and experiences as a gay man in the 1970's, his other spiritual experiences and sympathetic magick in practice. Out of print. Worth seeking out.
