Joanna Cole is the author of the well-known “Magic School Bus” series. She was originally a science book writer but turned to fiction was she realized she was so good at it. “On the Bus with Joanna Cole” is her self-written autobiography about how she turned into an author. The book is interesting, but a little dense for young children to read. The book is super informative and would be great for a student to use to write a biography.
Interesting and well written autobiography of the author of the Magic School Bus series from early childhood to present. Her father had dyslexia and she spoke of her early love for reading. Examples of the mock-ups she makes as the book comes together. Her short description of her favorite teacher, Miss Bair, was a lovely tribute of lasting influence.

After some graduate education courses, she spent a year as a librarian in a Brooklyn elementary school. Cole subsequently became a letters correspondent at Newsweek, and then a senior editor for Doubleday Books for Young Readers.
