I never, ever thought I'd be a One Direction fan, but my bestie Chelsea (who you all should follow because she's amazing) got me into them and I just have to say that their music and their videos have really helped me a lot lately. I just loved reading their individual feelings on everything that's happened to them so far and I have to say that Harry's section was definitely my favourite (not only because he's my favourite band member) but also because I feel that his was the most truthful, emotional and influential. People say all this crap about him and who he's dating and whatever, but they fail to mention the huge heart he has and the incredible things he does for people all over the world without even telling his publicists or anything so you know he's just doing it out of the goodness of his heart. Ed Sheeran said that he spent a couple thousand dollars going around feeding and getting to know homeless people one day, and no one even knows about it.
I just love these boys and they have brought me so much joy in the past week that I've become a 1D fangirl and I think they're just great in every single way.
If you think you hate one direction, I definitely recommend getting a closer look into their music and their movie and stuff because you'll probably fall head over heels just like I did. Their movie 'This is Us' is absolutely HILARIOUS and is a fabulous insight into their down to earth personalities dealing with going on tour and also their 'Where We Are Tour Concert' because it is just freaking incredible and some of you may or may not know that they write the majority of their songs. What talent and what a fantastic book!
I listened to the audiobook version of this and it was basically just an automatic 5 stars because c'mon, I got to hear bae (Liam) whisper sweet nothings (autobiographical details) in my ear. Also all my other favourite men. Loved it.
Honestly, I can't believe I actually read this thing. I'm just super 1D af so I guess that's why.
But the book was kind of boring, and super repetitive. All the boys talked about the exact same "turning" points in their lives so after you're done with Niall and Liam you've pretty much read the entire thing.

It's kind of obvious that the book wasn't written by them, not really. I'm sure they collaborated in the process with their thoughts and words and stuff, but /honestly/. The excessive talk about the X Factor, the shameless plugs of big management names (Ooo yea Ben Winston's cool! ooo yea Richard Griffiths!!!)--it got old real fast and it just made me skeptic about the whole thing. Also, the fact that there were some pretty constructed phrases that made me kind of uncomfortable sucked. Like I remember there was this part in Niall's chapter where he talked about being present in social media and how close it made him to the fans, it annoyed me so much. I feel like this was just a stupid way to trick little fans into believing that the boys are in control of all their social media accounts and like yea!!! totally legit!!
The amazingly limited vocabulary was also super annoying. The book was full of words and phrases like "it was mad!", "great craic!" (in Niall's chapter), "gig", "lads". It quickly became annoying and I felt like I was reading the same thing over and over and over again. Especially because, like I said before, they talked about the same things in each chapter-- X factor, leaving home, how overwhelmed we all were, MSG, Olympics, Ghana--we're super conscious about our fame and want to give back y'all honestly-- Midnight Memories, how lucky we all are! how we appreciate the fans! 1D day! Stadium tour! whoo! We're all lucky lads! We get sad sometimes but we're all happy! Love One direction! We rock!
Zayn's part was super refreshing though. I loved how he talked about his mixed race background and got all deep and smart around the middle with his talk about social media and all. His was the only one that seemed very genuine and stuff.
Yeah. So. It was an ok book. Kinda felt like I wasted my time, but honestly, I didn't expect any different. Sorry boys. I never believe you in print.

Not going to lie, I adore these boys. I can't help it. They are just pure fun and this book was pretty much that. This autobiography gives each boy a chance to share their story from the beginning leading all the way up to the start of their 2014 stadium tour. While parts were repetitive (they all talked about the same moments in their bands history), it was fun to see how each of them viewed what was happening to them.

i found the stories of the boys intresting.
the way it's written it's almost like you're talking to them face to face.
recommened for both fans and non-fans.
Can you get ANY MORE humble than that?
That's not a rhetorical question - I am literally wondering if it is physically possible to compose a piece of more humble literature? I mean, Jesus f'n Christ of Nazareth couldn't write an autobiography at this level of humbleness. He'd try to be casual like "
Sure I walk on water and rise from the dead, but it's a privilege to be crucified and have my back turned into minced meat for all you wonderful believers out there

Sure I walk on water and rise from the dead, but it's a privilege to be crucified and have my back turned into minced meat for all you wonderful believers out there
" and he'd still be One-upped by One Direction. Pun intended.
I don't mean it as a knock on them, but at the same time I wasn't overly fond of it either. I love pop music and pop culture as a whole - it fascinates me, but I consider myself more of a rock fan: I just find rock music and rockstars more genuine. And most rockstars aren't the kind of folk you'd find in a dictionary next to the definition of "humble". So, if a multi-platinum selling artist mentions that he sold "a few records" once - that's kind of cute, but if five multimillionaires write a book after what seems to be an overdose of humble-pie: it kind of becomes annoying at a certain point.
Still, the book wasn't a hack job, because if you know how to sift through the bullshit (luckily, 15 years of being a pro-wrestling fan helped me hone that skill), you can find a lot of
real
under all the thick lairs of humbleness. Here's the trick: just pay more attention to the parts that are immediately followed by "
but
it's still such a blessing to be a part of 1D" or "
but
it's such a small price to pay for this experience". The parts that precede these cliches, are the things that are actually bothering them. Like sacrificing parts of their personal life, their relationships being on public display or being homesick. They're still young adults that are trying to cope with a level of stardom that is unprecedented. Why? Because with the ever-growing rates of out interconnectedness via social media, superstars of tomorrow will experience a higher level of celebrity that the superstars of yesterday. Maybe for a shorter time and not as long lasting, but the madness will be above an beyond. Frank Sintatra didn't know what it was like to be Elvis Presley and Elvis couldn't imagine what it was like to be Michael Jackson.
Now, regarding the value of this book in terms of an Autobiography - the problem I had with it was, that even though there were some personal bio parts scattered here and there, basically, their lives are so intertwined that they were retelling the same story at a fraction of a different angle, because they lack a different perspective while traveling together. And midway through the book you just know the sequence of events: childhood; X Factor; album going Number 1; USA tour; London Olympics; MSG; Ghana Comic Relief; first movie; stadium tour. Not one of them missed a single link in this chain. I was almost getting a kick out of reading about MSG and going "
...here comes Ghana and humbling poverty
". Sure enough, the next sentence takes me to Africa.
All in all, the book was nice if even a non-Directioner such as I could enjoy it. It was very light on P.R. and wasn't aggressively pushing any agendas or product on you.
Since I enjoy a couple of their singles every year, I hope that there's no 20-year-old Yoko Ono with a "Band Wrecker" kit waiting for them around the corner.

I've always been a casual fan of One Direction... Their new album is legitimately amazing. I've become so inspired looking back on their journey, seeing them all grow up and become so fabulous at what they do & staying so normal, grounded, & hilarious in the process. I'm encouraged to become a better artist and hope that if I was ever given an opportunity to do something awesome I would work as hard as these lads have to achieve their success.
I enjoyed reading this book a lot. I've always liked this band but reading this book I was able to read how they truly felt and how they actually perceived different events. It's so cool to read their thoughts and I love that they wrote thus autobiography. It was interesting to learn so much more about them. You don't really have to be a huge fan of theirs to read this book because once you read it you will have this sort of respect for them. I really loved this book.
It's no secret that I am a HUGE One Direction fan. I was completely infatuated with this book. It was raw and genuine. It told the perspective of each boy and what it is like being in a band with an immense amount of global success. We probably all have wondered what it is like to be famous, right? Ok... so this shouldn't be called an autobiography because most of it was their experiences from the last 4 years and a little bit of their lives before and now but not as much as I would have liked (not so much their now personal lives cause I think they deserve to have that, but maybe a few more childhood stories would have been nice)...

I honestly would love to read this if they wrote it 10-15 years from now because even though I believe they were being honest, I'm sure there was a lot of honesty left out because of the fact that they're still in the thick of all of it... plus the fact that they are all barely in their 20's and even though they've experienced a lot, I imagine there is quite a bit more to come.
It was a bit repetitive... with all of them mentioning the xfactor, MSG, Olympics several times in the book... and that they all pretty much felt the same about it... but it was still nice to get their individual outlooks on certain things.
I can't give my boys less than 4 stars cause I just wouldn't feel right, and I did enjoy getting their perspectives, but it did get a little hard to read in the middle of each chapter...
Good job overall, loved this pictures :)

The absolute best part of the book in my opinion was Zayn's chapter! I'll admit, Zayn owns a bigger chunk of my heart than the rest of them do so I might just be biased but I loved his section. I loved how he mentioned the fact that he's mixed race and what it was like for him growing up that way in school. He got into more of the real downsides of being in the band, like being away from home, his girlfriend and missing his family. Also his way of writing is so different than the other guys, even though I know they had help with the writing process, his just sounded so personal. Absolutely loved it! I would love to read a book solely written by him.
Also another highlight was the first part of Louis chapter. I always think of him as the really easy going, funny one so my heart was broken when he talked about how he felt to never get solos. It was so sad. He has never really mentioned how that affected him before so to finally hear how his confidence was lowered because of it makes me respect him so much more now. He's worked so hard and grown so much, I'm proud of him.
This personal stuff is what I wanted from this book and I know they want to keep their private life but I feel that if your going to write a book you have to talk about the personal stuff. Also half of the pictures were taken right off Instagram so they weren't really new.
Overall it was an ok book the best part was Zayn and Louis. I honestly don't really remember what Liam, Niall and Harry's chapters were even about because they all kind of blended together. I love One Direction and I think their careers have been amazing so far and they have accomplished a lot. Hopefully they continue to have success and I'll continue to buy everything they put in my face!

This autobiography was written wonderfully by the boys themselves and I love them even more for it. All of them did a great job explaining what life is like being in One Direction.
I'll be honest, I am a new fan to the Directioners. For a long time (basically since they stared), I tried to fight the hype because it was "too teeny-bopper." Then I listened to the music and I was sold. I really did love this book. Admittedly, towards the end it did seem a bit repetitive in parts because they talked about a lot of the same thing (MSG, Comic Relief, etc.), but it was still interesting to see each of the boys' perspectives on the different events that they did mention and their

I loved that it was easy to hear who was speaking, even without looking at the name on the side of the page or the obvious location/name clues in the writing. They all sounded like they sound in interviews (both staged and not) and when they are performing. There were five distinct voices in the text and, as both an avid reading and a writer, I really appreciated that.
The pictures were fantastic to look at. I always find it fun to see pictures of those I admire from when they were younger as well as pictures of them now. People are fascinating and it is interesting to see how they grow and change through the years in snapshot form.
Overall, I really enjoyed the book. It was nothing groundbreaking, nothing spectacularly stellar, but it was well done and it was enjoyable, which is what I was looking for when I picked it up (let's be honest, you don't pick this book up expecting Dickens or Austen). I have no regrets in buying it and I have no regrets in spending the time I did reading it.

I remember reading a section in Zayn's story where he talks about his tattoo's, it was a small paragraph and he says something like "Nevermind my tattoo's, back to One Direction." I was thinking NOOOOO thats what I want to read, their personal thoughts that they don't get to say in interviews and etc. because those are all about promoting 1D stuff. I'm interested in their interests, deep sad thoughts, and family life. This book was mainly going over events and what they were feeling during those events, those feelings were basically shock and gratefulness. We know that both parties (1D and fans) are genuinely thankful for each other. It is great to see them as humble men though to be honest. They go over numerous times how they hate to be called celebrities and even hate the word. This book was yes personal, but not as personal as I would like, but I think it is unfair of me to ask them to share what they want private. Overall, I am glad I bought this book and supported these five talented gentlemen.
I wish I did get the audio version so I could hear their lovely voices! The pictures in the book I could easily find online.

The book is pretty dull. Each “lad” (a noun greatly overused in the book) has his own chapter, first telling you about the childhood that led to the X Factor and then telling you about his experience in One Direction. Unfortunately, every kid had pretty much the same experience, so you’re hearing the same story over and over again from five “different” points of view (I say “different” because, based on what I read, these boys are all the same. Hard working, goofy, fun loving, “having a laugh.” There’s nothing very distinct about any of them.)
The boys also fail to acknowledge that they have a wide audience. What I mean by that is, I have no idea what the O2 is. Is it a stadium? A tv show? Not a clue, but they mention it several times without explanation. I also have no idea what Judges’ Houses is, because I’ve never watched X Factor. The boys are making a lot of assumptions about who will read this book, assuming that the reader knows everything about the band already and is just looking for the band members’ “feelings.” Niall literally wrote “As you know, our first single didn’t come out til the September after The X Factor,” I’m sorry, I didn’t know that.
When I read an autobiography, I’m looking to learn about someone’s life. I’m not looking for a summary of events, which also they’re already assuming I KNOW these things, so why are you summarizing them, or to be confused about what they’re referencing. I’m a pretty big fan of the band, so I was very disappointed in this book, especially after loving This is Us, their very well-done and informative documentary. They're really just suffering from a lack of detail. I'm not interested in reading one paragraph about your trip to Ghana in which you describe it as indescribable.
Thankfully, Zayn and Louis are somewhat interesting people, so the last two chapters of the book are interesting. Zayn talks about fame and being shy, and Louis describes his lack of confidence and adjustment being a member of the band. But still, not the most interesting book of read, and really not a very good autobiography. They talk a lot about how their fame came out of nowhere and could go away anytime, so I'm sure the book is just one more way to capitalize on the fame. We'll see if we get another one in a few years.

Pilihan kata-katanya menarik. He's a good story teller. 'AWFUL!' 'Proper nuts!' 'This is mad!' 'Oh crap!' 'How crazy is that?' Bisa banget bayangin dia ngomong kata-kata itu dan he's like so british yeah haha. Oh ya, yang ini 'I remember staying up until stupid o'clock in the morning signing 5000 CDs...' what, stupid o'clock? *ROTFL
Satu bagian dari bab Liam sukses bikin nangis, tbh. Salah satu kejadian di Ghana.
I think reading this kind of book makes me open my eyes wider. So much hard work need to do to be successful, it doesn't just fall into your lap accidentally. Applies to everyone, doesn't matter if you're an entertainer like them or staff or enterpreneur or else... And teach me well how to be thankful for life, also.
This book is one of the best books ever (see what I did there!!) being a Directioner I was obviously going to read the book but I don't just recommended this book for Directioners, I think everybody should give this book a chance. This book is written extremely well as it shows what the boys have been through and really tells a story. I guess I am little biased because I do love the guys but this is an amazing book!!
I rate it a 5/5 s d recommend it for anyone and everyone

Over the past week I've both listened to the audiobook and read the actual book, and I've gotta tell you, it was tough goings at points. I listened to the audiobook first, and found myself constantly saying "wow, Niall's voice is a joy to listen to", "Harry's voice sounds just as good as the corner piece of cake with lots of icing tastes", and, more importantly, "this isn't even an audiobook" #shedoesntevengohere Honestly, how can anyone call that an audiobook? It was just the boys talking about their experiences in the band, but it had absolutely no flow and didn't go anywhere and was organized poorly and had some really horrible sound quality/editing bits. And by editing bits I mean there was virtually none of that.
Let me back up a second because this is already horrible disjointed and ridiculous but I want to say my piece.
So this book - it was published only like, a year after their first one, which seemed to be pretty thorough (at least from what I could see from flipping through it). The thing that really got my goat with this one was that they didn't really write it like an autobiography - or rather, they did, but it was basically five autobiographies where they all said THE EXACT. SAME.THING. If I have to read one more sentence about how "mad" MSG was or how "the lads" were "gutted" about something, I might shoot myself. And this, in my opinion, is not the boys' fault. They have no idea what they're doing because they're idiots, and I will BET YOU MONEY that they each set up in a room with a microphone and a MAC, were told to talk about all of their awesome moments in the past four years, and then those interviews were just transcribed loosely for the book. Certain bits were pulled from their audio word for word, which isn't a problem, but doesn't flow well with the ghost-authored portions that surround it.
Now, let me be clear when I say I still enjoyed both the book and the audio. Listening to the boys talk, you got some really interesting insight on a couple of them and how they felt/where they came from/etc etc. Louis spoke a lot about his insecurities on the first two albums (which relates 100% to Robear and I just talking about how he and Niall were fringe for the first two albums), and Niall had a lot of #neat stuff to say about touring as he was the most candid. Harry seemed extremely genuine in his bits, too, and was a joy to listen to. Zayn was just an IDIOT because he's all "I can't imagine doing this without the boys, I could never make it on my own blah blah" and then goes and SIGNS A RECORDING CONTRACT AS A SOLO ARTIST #ZOLO2016 and he's contradicting himself all over the place, saying he was shy but also hyperactive? GET OUT you're a slug bud, just deal with it. And Liam, in classic style, had too many words for too little talk.
Wow.
It's not like I'm passionate at all though, eh?
Bottom line: this book reads like an awful high school english paper with a horrible family photo for a cover but could be really enjoyable broken into chunks. If you're wondering whether to do that audio and the physical book, go with the audio, but be warned that Zayn is kind of hard to hear, Niall is the most fun, Louis' voice is even higher when all you can hear is him speaking, and none of them sing on it. #shame

This is my first audiobook review. I have learned to enjoy audiobooks shortly after listening to this one! I was on my way to a week long trip which was roughly 2hrs away. This was short and so I chose it - also, I saw it reviewed on my Goodreads feed.
One Direction are our narrators which is amazing! I was able to hear the emotion in their voices as they talked about each topic or experience they've had. Whereas, in a book you don't see that. You're reading the emotion for yourself.

I was able to learn more about the boys individually like their outlook on leaving home at just sixteen or seventeen years old or simply their lives before X-Factor. I learned things I didn't know before, and I know a lot about One Direction.
I couldn't imagine leaving my house at about sixteen and never going back. That's what happened for them, the last time they left their homes was to go to their X-Factor audition and they never returned after. That was so scary to think about.
What stuck out to me the most was each boy's POV on visiting Ghana to shoot the One Way or Another Music Video. They all had different views that touched my heart. Especially Harry and Niall. Niall talked about how we take water for granted. He was sitting around drinking water from his bottle and a swarm of kids stood around him, so he squirted it into each child's mouth. He said it's something we don't think about, you can go home and have a refrigerator full of water and they don't even have a drop. Harry also had an open mind about being there. He expressed his opinion on how we shouldn't dwell on little things that happen when something bigger is happening out in the world.
They also talk about what they think of being called a "celebrity". Most of them said they don't see themselves as celebrities. They feel like celebrities act different and order. They aren't like that.
I enjoyed every minute of this biography. I learned so much and it really made me think. This is definitely a great read or listen, if you're a fan or not. If you like hearing different POV's or 5, this may be the one for you! I rated this full five stars because I couldn't pick out any flaws :)

I'm writing this review even though I'm 14 minutes away to finishing the audio book and Harry was talking. And I mean, it's Harry who's talking... and the rating is for the audio book version. I'll change it if I think I like the book more (which is fosho).
One Direction: Who We Are: Our Autobiography is One Direction's latest official book (after Where We Are) where they will tell their story that has never been told before. They will also release an audio book version where their story will be

I listened to the audio book version of this book since I'm still waiting for the physical copy and thinking it's cool to listen to their voice telling their own part, their own story. To be honest when they announced this book and the title it holds I am super excited because AUTOBIOGRAPHY and the promise of "who we are".
If youre 1D af, meaning die hard Directioner and your one and only fandom is One Direction, and you're like following them since The X-Factor, this book feels like or will feel like they didn't offer something new. I don't know if it's just me and if I just expected too much but I feel that they've told this story a million times before.
Each boys (like with their other books) discussed the same things in their own POV. They discussed their lives before One Direction and their humble beginnings (wkta or "we know this already"), how X-factor changed their lives (wkta), their experience in recording UAN and TMH and their reaction when both became #1 worldwide (again wkta), how they deal with celebrity status (pretty sure wkta), how their tour affects/affected them especially Ghana (wkta), and how they deal with the success of the band (uhm wkta!).
This might not be the case for all fans who have read this book and/or listened to the audio book, this is just imo.
To be fair, there were some pretty great honest story or as honest and as truthful as it can be that were kinda new to me like when Louis talked about his struggles about not getting enough solos during The X-factor (because apparently before x-factor he always wanted to be the center of attention and that's not the case in The X-factor) and some people said negative things about it. I mean even in UAN he rarely got solos. It was during Midnight Memories (third album!) that he got really confident with his voice and his contribution to the band. I mean, 3rd album was kinda a long time.. And I think I can understand now that when he started to be confident with his voice was the time I really really appreciate him and in fact my favorite part in every 1D song now is mostly (if not all) his part. Yeah, that's saying something. I'm so glad he got confident and I think he is ever since he experienced writing their own songs in TMH but really got the feel of it during MM.
But even then, you know, what's really really amazing with this band, you can't see jealousy even a spark. Louis could have easily be jealous towards idk Harry because Harry pretty much center-of-attention magnet but of course he won't, he loves Harry! I just hoped they talked about jealousy within the band which is wishful thinking because I don't think the management wants to have that image. They didn't even discuss their friendship off canon.
Another great part which was actually what I'm hoping they'll discuss but it's only Harry who did but still okay because as I've said pretty much all the media's/fans' attention are on him. He talked about gossips. He didn't dwell on it on a deeper level like if it's affecting him on a different level well, maybe because he's not? He said he gets it that it's part of it and he just kind of shrugs gossips. I mean remember like all the gossips Harry faced? He said that he learned not to believe in everything written in the paper which is I think what he wants to say to us to not believe everything other people said about him .
I want more 1D stories and can we at least retire with the X-factor and humble beginnings because we know it already! ;)
I hope they discussed how they have changed in the 4 years and I mean like, principle-wise, as a person, their friendship, their relationship with each other and with their family and their thoughts about the fans and the future of the band. I don't know, just more.
I'm kind of looking forward to the physical copy because of pictures although not really because I'm pretty certain photos from Tumblr will be a lot more interesting. Yeah, for collection.
But I understand that they don't really actually have a call on it. At the end of the day, it's still management's call, so. Yeah! Fine.

Giving it four of five stars because....four. haha (punny)
So many bits have been written about these lads in the past but here are some interesting parts that I actually liked from the book. And to sum it up:
Zayn's wide vocab (he got me floored at the use of the word 'bamboozled') and him having the most organised thoughts of the five (Not being too biased, of course.) You just kind of cannot help but feel for his decision of leaving once you've read the book, or at least he's giving some hints

Niall's funny celeb status struggles and adventures;
Harry's cute as a button childhood photos, LA and girls/relationships stories;
Liam's supportive family and his journey as a singer;
Louis' voice and self-confidence issues.
Recommended to: all the 1Dafs, of course.
And to curious carrots (myself included).

I did truly enjoy this autobio, and I did learn a few new things about the boys and I liked to hear things from their perspective. The only thing that did bother me a little was it felt repetitive reading about the same events five times in each individual chapter.. Otherwise a good read for any Direction fan!
I think it's obvious how much I love these boys. They have helped me through some tough situations and they just make me smile. The book gave me a better insight into their though process and just their life. Since they each wrote their own chapters, I feel much closer to them. Love the book.
I feel like each of the boys should have covered one topic/one time period rather than have them each do the same bits. Obviously they each have their own input to add as well as slight changes here and there but reading it all in one go was tedious.
