Ajaan Tate was one of the most renown monks in the Thai forest tradition. He was one of the most senior disciples of Ajaan Mun, who could be considered as the father of the Dhuthanga Kammatthana Practice in Thailand. It is believed that Ajaan Tate, like his teacher Ajaan Mun, has attained arahantship (enlightenment), has attained the final goal Nibbana. Until today, Ajaan Tate is highly respected by the Buddhist Community of Thailand, his relics are still worshipped in his monastery in Thailand!

I think it is a blessing that Ajaan Tate was compassionate enough to write his own autobiography. In his autobiography, we can see his way of practice, his struggle. This autobiography is also a mean for his teaching to all of us who are interesting in the path of Buddhist meditation practice, especially in the Thai Forest Tradition! It resonates real well, especially for me and those who do the practice in this lineage. This is perhaps the only autobiography of a forest monk (certainly a VERY HIGHLY RESPECTED and HIGHLY ATTAINED ONE) that has ever being written, and translated into English! Most monks do not do their own autobiography... When the disciples do their teacher's biography (as what is normally done), you wonder sometimes how much details are lost, how much experience that is lost or not told of. So I think it's a blessing when Ajaan Tate is compassionate enough to share with us his life and experience first-hand!
I, myself, have found the answer to one of my problems in the practice from this autobiography. I had been having the experience for at least a decade, and no body could give me the answer for the problem I had. I found lots of people have the same problems, but they do not have the answer. Ajaan Tate, apparently had had the same problem, and he had the answer for that one problem.

It's good for people like to me to read works about Buddhism by Buddhists. It's not fair to assume you know about other religions if the only things you read about them are written by people who disagree with them.
