Interesting book. Dry, of course. but gives insight into that era.
If I were rating the originally biography only, I would have given it a four for the insights it provides regarding Venice in general, and Jews in venice in the early seventeenth century.
However thie whole book is as much about translation as it is aout the historical Rabbi, the ghetto, and the city, For some readers that might be a plus, but for me it wasn't.

Leon Modena's life story is fascinating and it gives us a unique glimpse into European Early Modern social history as told by a member of Italy's Jewish minority group.
