My father-in-law suggested this book to me. He had enjoyed Buewi's book, How to Cook and Eat in Chinese, which was written during WWII in Cambridge while her husband was on faculty at Harvard, and has since become a classic Chinese cookbook. Buwei's life story was equally fascinating and inspiring, but what I loved most was her matter-of-fact, conversation-like style of writing.
