"Never die easy. Why run out of bounds and die easy? Make that linebacker pay. It carries into all facets of your life. It's okay to lose, to die, but don't die without trying, without giving it your best."

His legacy is towering. Walter Payton—the man they called Sweetness, for the way he ran—remains the most prolific running back in the history of the National Football L

I read the autobiography of Walter Payton knowing a lot about him already, but not much about his personal life and work ethic. He created a reputation as a nice, genuine person, which along with his immense running ability, earned him the nickname "Sweetness." I really enjoyed the personal aspects of the book, such as his description of the struggles of going to a newly-integrated High School in Mississippi, and the racism that surrounded him. A big part of Payton's life was the work ethic that ...more

Never Die Easy is a great book that tells the different stories of the great Walter Payton. This book is written by Walter’s friends, family, coaches, teammates, and people that were close to one of the greatest football players ever. One story tells about how walter was never looking for the sidelines and how he would rather run over a linebacker, than take the open sideline. Another story tells about how Walter had to run nearly three miles to and from practice every day and how he never touc ...more

I noticed straight off the bat that this book was going to be emotional. He uses really deep feeling and detail. You can tell he has great memory. I thought it was funny when he said that he started playing football just to impress girls and get their attention. Now to see his legacy today its pretty incredible. One of the best running backs the NFL has ever seen, one of the best we may ever see.
I wonder how his career would have shaped out on another team. Would he have still been that succe

This book showed me alot about football and comparing it to my personal life itself. Walter payton was one of the best laid back football players of all time history. He went by the name of sweetness because he played so smoothly and scored alot of touchdowns easily. As a child he grew up in poverty and wanted to get out and provide for his family. During his football career, he ended up catching liver cancer but still kept playing without anyone knowing his sickness.

He got the title "Never Die

This book was very inspirational. This book pushes you to become a better person and a better athlete. His life was based on giving and never turning his back on other people. The story is about how Walter Payton's life effected everyone eleses around him. I chose to read this book because I like Walter Payton as a player and never really looked to see how he was while he was living and after he retired.

inspirational book-even if you are not a Bears fan...Walter Payton was the greatest football player of all time but he did wonderful things for children as well-if you want to appreciate a time when football players weren't all about bigger paychecks and loved the game then you will love this book-and cry as well

Never Die easy, by Walter Payton I thought that this book was so influencing on not only me but everyone around me since we can all learn a lesson every day.The reason I say this is since Walter had a liver disease that in the end killed him. The book starts off with Walter talking about his early life growing up in Mississippi being very poor but then starting to play football to attract girls attention. He thought himself that he wouldn't make it far in football but ended up being drafted to th ...more

I chose this book, “Never Die Easy”, because it was an autobiography of my all time favorite NFL football player. I wanted to know more about his whole life before he died on November 1, 1999 after struggling with a rare liver disease, primary sclerosing cholangitis, for several months. I chose this also because football is my favorite sport and the story of his life is nonfictional. To me, Walter Payton was the greatest football player in the history of the NFL based on this book and what peopl ...more

Ok this is my book talk. Ok so this book is kinda of hard to follow becuase of how it jumps around. So at the beginning of it it is telling about Walters last few days on earth. The doctors had said that Walters kidnees have failed, and that the only way for Walter to stay alive is for him to get a kidnee transplant. So they go and sign him up for one. But the thing is as they were waiting for him to get one the doctors said that there has been other things in walters body that have failed. And ...more

Never Die Easy
The book Never Die Easy is an autobiography about Walter Peyton told by Walter Peyton, family, friends, and others that were close to him. I really enjoyed the style of this book. The book was told from different perspectives, which I found to be easy to read and it gives you more than just perspective of a story. The beginning of the book talks about Walter’s death. The next part of the book is about Walter growing up, his high school career,

Walter Payton was adored through out the NFL in his 12 year career with the Chicago Bears but the NFL's man of steel found out that metal eventually rusts. In the heart felt and inspiring story of the greatest football player of all time it describes how much Payton meant to the people around him and the type of person he was. One of the most important people in the book was Connie Payton, his wife, whom was there and supported Walter through out his illness. The author, Don Yaeger, truly got in ...more

Overall a solid book that did a good job of presenting the facts around Walter's childhood, high school and college years, and his time in and after the NFL. Growing up as a Bears fan I had read quite a bit about Walter's past, but wasn't aware of all of the things that he did post-NFL. I know that the author was forced to be creative with the format of the book since Walter died before it could be completed. However, it didn't really work for me. Switching between different people each chapter ...more

A nice autobiography of Sweetness, one of my childhood heroes. Walter Payton is certainly worthy of admiration for his tenacity and his worldview, among a great many other attributes. Written unlike your average autobiography, this weaves stories and quotes from Walter and his family, friends and teammates to create the story of his life and death.

Makes me appreciate WP even more than I did-and his insight on sports today is interesting. I bawled my eyes out at the end, he was just a fantastic athlete & there are not many like him anymore. An inspirational read!

The literary element that I chose for this story is Text-to-self. In the text Walter Payton says "My old football coach told me to never die easy always die hard." This relates to me because when playing football, basketball or whatever sport it is that I am playing I always try my hardest to stay alive and keep fighting much like walter did when he was playing football and when he was fighting his battle with cancer. This text also relates to me much like Walter I applied that quote to more than ...more

A wonderful, uplifting book. Walton Payton was surely a great football player, but he is even more of a great man for the simple lessons in life that this memoir gives.

“If you ask me how I want to be remembered, it is as a winner. You know what a winner is? A winner is somebody who has given his best effort, who has tried the hardest they possibly can, who has utilized every ounce of energy and strength within them to accomplish something. It doesn't mean that they accomplished it or failed, it means that they've given it their best. That's a winner.” 26 likes
