I quite liked this book. A very short read- but with a lot of meat. Sophira is an incredibly unique character, a young & beautiful monster. Her hatred for everyone is so over the top it almost becomes funny. The book is filled with little, broken romances that are a delight to read. Some of the most original characters I've seen in a while, as well. Definitely not the best book I've read, but still a good one. Style over substance in the best possible way.

This is a twisting, dark, sexy tale of love and loss told through pop culture references and retro films.

If your not a fan of the self harming, troubled heroine then put this book down and give it to someone who will enjoy it and get something from this brave piece of writing.

The liveliest yet most scholarly (in a good way) thing I have ever read on this subject.
An amazing meditation that great 20th Century mixture of feelings and images that we all have from films worth watching.
Everything is here:

Tired eyes.
Kiss-bruised lips.
Car crashes.

Certain books can leave you with a certain taste in your mouth...
This one left me tasting movie theatre popcorn, but of the saltiest sort.

e-book also coming soon, I believe. Never leave home without Morin. You'll only regret it.

I really don't know how I feel about Lampshades. Sophira is abhorrent, whiny, and self-indulgent most of the time. It is increasingly difficult to determine how much of her story is "real" and how much is in her head. The book could just as easily be the ramblings of a confined mental patient. Despite the endless annoyances, the story is strangely intriguing.
