I have always been interested in Jimmy Doolittle. I was aware that his impact on aviation was tremendous but didn't know much about the details. His book was mentioned in Bob Hoover's Flying the Feathered Edge and it made me want to pick up a copy.

The book is written by Mr. Doolittle himself and does not beat around the bush. It's a pilots book written by a true pioneer. The man was simply a force of nature in early aviation. He was a pretty smart guy but that's not what made him great. It was a combination of right time, right place and a visible commitment to the world of aviation and his vision of its future. I am enjoying every page of this fine work about this great man!
(12/21/14) Just finished it. Wow! I had no idea the depth and breadth of his impact on aviation. He was hugely influential not only in the flying of aircraft but also the industrial production. He lead the mighty Eighth Air Force to the defeat of Germany and then participated in the golden years of military aviation after the war through the late 60's. He was a pragmatic, practical man who personifies what the common man can do if he/she puts their mind and body into it.
Famous for leading the Tokyo Raid, America's first strike against Japan in World War II, Jimmy Doolittle lived a remarkable life as an American pilot. A scientist with a doctorate in aeronautical engineering from MIT, an aviation pioneer who was the first to fly across the United States in less than 24 hours and the first to fly "blind" (using only his plane's instruments), a barnstormer well know

A scientist with a doctorate in aeronautical engineering from MIT, an aviation pioneer who was the first to fly across the United States in less than 24 hours and the first to fly "blind" (using only his plane's instruments), a barnstormer well known for aerobatics, a popular racing pilot who won every major air race at least once, recipient of both the Congressional Medal of Honor and Presidential Medal of Freedom, a four-star general, and commander of the 8th, 12th, and 15th Air Forces.
