This is an oral autobiography of Lady May Lawford, mother of actor Peter Lawford, as told to and transcribed by Buddy Galon:
“I felt Peter was awfully mean to Marilyn. After all, on the evening that she died she had called him on the telephone and had said goodbye to everyone there at his beach house. Then she dropped the telephone as a result of her loss of consciousness.

“I felt Peter was awfully mean to Marilyn. After all, on the evening that she died she had called him on the telephone and had said goodbye to everyone there at his beach house. Then she dropped the telephone as a result of her loss of consciousness. Peter had run to her rescue before (just as he had with Judy Garland) when she pleaded over the phone for him to come over. However, this time was different because she said ‘goodbye’. ‘Goodbye’ sounded final.
“’How could you be so unfeeling when that lovely girl’s life was at stake?’ I asked Peter when I finally managed to get though to him.”

This book became a part of my women in history library and I kept pushing it aside I fianlly got around to reading it as part of my challenge to read my unread books and I'm glad I did. I would almost go 2 and 1/2 starts because of the ending. This book is mostly a telling of thoughts that people are not always what they seem to be, there was a great dilike for the Kenndy family which brings be to the name dropping by Lady Lawford, at times it seemed over the top with her knowing this person and that. I found myself ready for the end of the book because there seemed no point, it was a journal of sorts with mini thoughts, hate, at times love and self important statement. The end I found most intresting with Lady Lawford write ups from "fate" magazine (I enjoy the paprnormal). The aftwards would have made a much better entire book with small bits of her journal and thought. In the afterward her friend tells of the sad cover up and life ending of Lady Lawford. With waiting for the son to die to publish this book I see no reason a book of entire informaiton on her kidnapping and death would not have been better.
I love the title and I found the information in the book enlighitng...I need to check up on some of what was said, however with such an ending of mystery and ill care of a person I am sure most of what Lady Lawford saw and reported will never truly be known. I wish my grandmother was alive to talk with about her and Peter, as she loved movies and gossip, she surly had some thought into all this wild story. Ironicly I caught part of It Should Happen To You while reading this book, I had a weird feeling about Peter...I really would have thought weird given the ending of this book.
This book will remain in my women in history library, because it is what I love, a story of a woman with great iner being to stay who she was and over come a great many issue in life Given the Title Bitch I'm sure I would have hated to like her in her time.
