It was interesting and moving to read the account of Bill’s early life and incredible to think how much some things have changed in the space of a lifetime. Bill had a diverse background and grew up in various institutions before being reunited with his family. He then did National Service in East Africa and the Persian Gulf.

Later in the book, Bill talks about his divorce, businesses and family, his loves, resentments and regrets. But for me it was his childhood that struck me the most and made me warm to the author.
These are very honest memoirs and it is always heart warming to read about how someone has overcome difficulties in early life to achieve their aspirations.
