Dodelijk saai leesvoer zonder focus. Niet aan mij besteed.

I hardly share any of debeavoir's beliefs; probably none, but the candor and honesty that is displayed in this book is startling and completely disarming. This book drew me in like very few ever have. Though I disagree with her philosophies, and consider their premises irrationally limited, I felt that her searching, her integrity, her approach to life and relationships, make her someone that I would have loved to have in my life. I know I'm not alone. I finished wanting more.

The final part (volume 4) of de Beauvoir's autobiography covers 1962-1972, by which time she and Sartre were world famous and closely involved in Cold War and post-colonial politics. But her passion for her friends and the people around her remains undimmed and her continued will to 'live with no time out' is inspiring.

I was rather disappointed. I found it too superficial and a bit gossipy.

If you read and enjoyed Jean-Paul Sartre, you will want to know the woman, who held his attention both intellectually and emotionally, enough to become his traveling companion. A formidable force in philosophy to be enjoyed regardless of your gender or beliefs.

A- The brilliant continuation of de Beauvoir's diaries; we see a lot more politics, analysis on reactions to de Beauvoir's works, getting older, more on her relationship with Sartre.
