I decided to read the book "Valerie : The autobiography" because I had received the book from my Athletics Coach as a token of appreciation of joining his team. The book interested me because the cover was shining at me as if it was saying "read me now" and also to learn more about Valerie Adams and how she became famous as the Worlds Best Shot-put Thrower.

On the bingo board this book covers the category of an autobiography. I was interested to read an autobiography about Valerie Adams because I enjoy reading about people and how they became famous. She is also one of my favourite athletes and I only know very little about her.
The main character in the book is of most definitely Valerie Adams of course. It was very pleasing to learn more about Valerie Adams the Worlds Best Shot-put thrower and a representative of Athletics New Zealand. I learnt that she is very intelligent and has done very well in school work academically and sporting achievements. She has been very successful in World Series and is a great role model to her fans and peers around her.
My favourite quote from the book was "Live your life knowing that everyday you can spread love by showing the laughter in your eyes and let the grace within your soul be known to the world. For we are a part of his Divine Artistic Plan and he is a wonder to behold.". - Valerie Adams. This was a quote used by Valerie Adams when she was talking to one of her fans. I think she was trying to get them motivated by the sport athletics and how important family and friends love and laughter is.
Something I learnt from the book is how hard it is to take away all the pressure from yourself when you are representing a country in Olympics and World Series and how everyone is counting on you to do your very best. Well personally, I think Valerie Adams is a very hard worker. She practises and trains really hard and on competitions she put 110% in her throws and throws to the best of her ability.
I was surprised. This book was actually really good. You see I don't do autobiographies. I guess the reason I liked it was because I'm a footballer and Valerie's an Athlete. We both train, both have physical and mental battles and both have family issues. But the only difference is Valerie's are more serious. The problems she faces and how much she trains is unbelievable. In the book Valerie takes us back to when she was a young girl and talks us through exactly what happened during the 2012 Lon

On the bingo board this covers the ' Diary, Auto/biography ' box. I always thought biographies were boring because there was nothing interesting about them, nothing I really I wanted to know or cared about. But it was different with Valerie's because I was always keen to know exactly what happened in London and so Valerie's book was a perfect idea.
( Warning - this quote is long and very touching )My favourite quote was " Looking back, I was fortunate enough to have had a physed teacher, Teena Tugaga, at intermediate school who took me to a sports shop and out of her own pocket paid $150 for a pair of branded shoes to fit me. That was the trigger. I thought, ' My God, you believe in me that much you'll spend that out of your own salary to buy me shoes. '. Mum and Dad couldn't buy me shoes that cost that much. Tina saw something in me, I felt her love and support and ' boom ' - off I went " it is my favourite quote because it proves that even the simplistic acts of kindness can go a long way.....and even take them all the way to the Olympics.
My favourite character? Easy, it's obviously Valerie. She's an amazing model to not only the woman of New Zealand but to the Pacifica people. And also it's a autobiography. There's really only one character.
This book taught me that anything is possible if you believe and work hard. Yeah cheesy, I know, but its true. It doesn't matter where you come from or how much money you have.....only how much you want it. Oh, you want proof? Look at Valerie.

As an athlete myself I really liked this book. It shows people that as athletes is not all about the competitons. Its the hours behimd it all, training, physio and all that
