‘My Years of hard work, the refusal to give up, pushing every boundary there was. The thrill, the joy of winning, the successes. The Olympic bronze, my most prized possession. And boxing, the sport I gave myself to. All of it is real. I was the David who took on the Goliaths in the boxing ring – and I won, most of the time.’

Rishi Prakash
The most celebrated boxer of our country speaks here about her life, her struggle and the way to all those accolades which she earned over all these years.

"Nothing is impossible” is the apt phrase that sums up the inspiring story of the Olympic Bronze medal winner and unprecendented five time world championship winner Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom. A one woman’s war against the overwhelming forces of life and her victory, in fact one after another in the ring and outside is one hell of an inspir

"I was not always recognized as Indian in my own country. Because of our oriental looks, people from Northeast are often mocked in other parts of India. We're called Nepalis, or Chinkies, and people call us names ... Whether or not I look 'Indian', I am an Indian and I represent India, with pride and all my heart."

In a country where cricketers are worshipped as sportsmen and other sports are only ignored, M.C.Mary Kom pursued her seemingly unachievable dream of becoming a world-class female boxe

The Magnificent Mary

This is an autobiography of India's most celebrated women boxer Mary Kom. She carved a career out for her. From humble beginings to highest honor, Mary has seen it all. The book reads more like a self help book than a real autobiography. She goes in depth to explain her poverty and the sacrifies her near and dear made to give her an opportunity to be what she is today.
Her husband is a real hero, Mary had all the fame. Under her shadows he did everything he promised and more.

Just finished reading,
Unbreakable: An Autobiography by MC Mary Kom

Inspiring to the core, it's a direct, no-holds barred, empathy-laced account of Mary Kom's unparalleled sporting journey, perhaps reflective of her style of boxing, as she describes herself: bop-bop-bop. Ha! Her unswerving dedication to family, community, friends and fellow boxers is praiseworthy and she never misses an opportunity to acknowledge their support with all humility. And yes, not to forget her matter of fact self-belie

Quite inspiring. Though the book is really short in length, it helps one peep deep into the life and making of M.C. Mary Kom. Overall a 'Goodread'.

Unbreakable is the first autobiography I have read, and to be very honest, the writing style takes some getting used to. There are many things about the book itself that doesn't add much to its rating. It is quite haphazardly written, in that it doesn't follow any real chronological sequence of events. While you get to read a lot about the many competitions and events of which Mary Kom was a part, it doesn't follow a dateline, making it a tad confusing to really understand her list of achievemen ...more

Doesn’t Mary Kom's look all warm and happy? Medals, fame and a Bollywood movie based upon you. However, only a few people know the pains Mary underwent to reach such dizzying heights of success. Read full review here.

I have only read cricket autobiographies and this was a heartfelt read, especially as it is a women sportsperson. It also gives great insight about the people of NorthEast which a whole other part of India. A short read leading up to her Olympic win and written from her heart. Though not a wizard with words she is pro at boxing and an excellent role model. Humbling read.

The book, comprising 17 chapters in loose chronological order, deals with different aspects of her life – early childhood and schooling, training, gradual rise in her career, her personal life and marriage, insurgency in Manipur, pregnancy and motherhood, return to boxing, achievements, awards and recognition, politics in the sports administration, her Olympic bronze and setting up of her boxing academy.

The writing is simple and easy to read. Full credit to Dina Serto who co-wrote this book.

An inspiring life of a boxer poorly written. Though the struggle to set a place as a sports icon of the country from a small tribal village where her parents are struggling for food , her father's untiring struggle to provide good education to his children, and Kom's Unbreakable will power in the boxing ring is portrayed well , an Olympic medal which she mentions as a childhood dream is not well written. The semifinal match which secured her bronze is finished within 4 lines . I also think it is ...more

Short, sweet and inspiring. It is another riveting story of someone rising to stardom from nowhere. The narration is simple, reflecting the persona of the author. The story has already inspired a lot of sportspersons all over the country but more so from the North-East. What is really remarkable is the grit and tenacity of Mary Kom that takes her to the summit. She had everything going against her. She was a woman, born in a poor family that could barely make both ends meet and from a strife tor ...more

Two magical words, "Mary Kom". Hailing from a poverty striken background, her life had been a deluge of struggles in all walks of life. Despite all odds, she never gave up and accomplished an uphill task of achieving the much coveted titles in the world of boxing. The story of her success would have been incomplete without the unconditional and cushioned support from her husband, Onler Kom who had been a dutiful and diligent father to the three kids back home, who sacrificed his career for the s ...more

Her's is a literal rags to riches story that every girl should read and be inspired by. She talks of growing up in rural Manipal with barely any money to pay school fees, and fighting her way to the top of her game through sheer determination - and support from her family, especially her husband. What's more is that she continues to push herself in a physically demanding sport even after having children, after which many told her that her career would be over. She proved them all wrong.

If Arjuna could aim and hit the eye of the fish and ride a chariot and converse with Krishna and romance with Draupadi and play with Abhimanyu all together... this is what Chungneijang Mary Kom is all about, I felt. And of course, hats off to Onler for his continuous support not only in words, but in action too. Great example of good parenting too. Mary Kom has shown very clearly that greatness and real success happens only through dedication and hard work.

Very good & inspiring book, Its an autobiography of one of the most successful women boxer. This book gives insights on her journey of, how she became a Olympic medalist & world champion. In the initial years of her childhood, how her family struggled to meet their daily needs, how she used to help her parents, how she chose a single person sport, then her path to become successful in that sport. She has brought a big identity to north east people India.

A soul stirring and inspiring autobiography from arguably the world's most prolific woman boxer. As the narrative threads through commencing from an immensely humble beginning and concluding with an incredibly dizzying level of achievement, the respect and admiration that one nurses for this champion is only increased manifold. The book could have been made even more readable with the able assistance of a capable biographer.

Unbreakable stood more that up to it’s name . An irrepressible spirit ... humility, mindfulness matches the success achieved. And very appealing also is her feelings towards her family, community; acknowledgement to what was received and desire to give back in return.

Movie may not be able to cover what a book can – but I do look forward to seeing the upcoming moving on the book ..

- Fantastic story but sadly the writing is poor and doesn't do sufficient justice to whom I believe is a great personality
- The coverage on important events is inadequate and sometimes glossed over while little insignificant details are discussed in more detail.
- Despite this, would recommend to someone interested in India and India's sports persons.

Actually, my two-star ratings sums it up real nice: "it was ok"!

The narration never grows on you. Mary never really tries to connect to the reader: neither emotionally nor intellectually. 95% of the narration is pretty boring, monotonous. A documentary could drone on much better.

Mary's story-telling is distant, aloof, detached. The only reason to continue reading the book for me was that the fact the book presented, did matter. The form sucked, the content was good. For example, the book sheds s

Her life is her message and she describes it beautifully in this book. Her hardships, her failures, her conflict with corruption in sports and yet her will and passion to keep pushing and winning maximum 'golds' in womens boxing. She is a truly inspirational figure who makes you believe 'Nothing is Impossible', you only have to want 'something' so bad that even if obstacles come your way, it ain't gonna stop you. Waiting to see her in Olympics 2016 !

A good book actually but certainly not that much engaging. An average book in terms of reading but surely based on an inspiring life. After reading the book, my respect for mary kom only got increased. Contains a very strong message though: we can do anything if we really have the desire to do it.
Respect Mary Kom _/\_ :)

What a woman! Immensely dedicated, extremely passionate, armed with loads of courage and willpower, she is the personification of inspiration. Of how you can overcome insurmountable odds if you will it and work hard enough. How can one stop himself/herself from becoming a fan after reading this book? She truly is UNBREAKABLE!!! A must read.

Best Book by Sports Person. I must say - she is very diplomatic to narrate her own story. In real life - her life was much more crazy than described in the book.

I am fan of Mary Kom and first time I started understand the Boxing game :)

This autobiography of Mary Kom clouded my eyes with tears while reading first couple of chapters, I must say. The perseverance, struggle of Mary Kom with her destitute background is heart breaking. The support she got from her husband to pursue her career in boxing, and looking after the chores and children is heartening.
Hubert
High on inspiration and very motivating...All these years have been reading about the medals she won...not the hardships and struggles she overcame...well, must agree passion and perseverance will always be impossible to break.

This is an autobiography of the successful boxer of India . Though not a detailed biography some part of her life regarding the struggles which she has undergone are truly motivational .
