I don't agree with all of Hudson Taylor's theology. But that caveat aside, what an encouraging book! Taylor has lots of cool stories and the way God worked in his life was truly amazing. Worth reading.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes:

On Sunday, June 25th, 1865, unable to bear the sight of a congregation of a thousand or more Christian people rejoicing in their own security, while millions were perishing for lack of knowledge, I wandered out on the sands alone, in great spiritual agony; (p.95

I think this is a must-read for all Christians. The most compelling thing to me about Hudson Taylor is how he determined to trust in God only for his finances as a missionary. Before he left for the mission-field he decided to see if it would work and live by faith for 1 year and tell no one. The miraculous ways that God provides for him are worth the read alone. I've read this book twice and got a lot out of it both time.

Convicting.

"Perhaps if there were more of that intense distress for souls that leads to tears, we should more frequently see the results we desire. Sometimes it may be that while we are complaining of the hardness of the hearts of those we are seeing to benefit, the hardness of our own hearts, and our won feeble apprehension of the solemn reality of eternal things, may be the true cause of our want of success"

Good Short Intro on Hudson Taylor

It is a short autobiography, not all interesting but worth reading. There are several things that can be learned from Taylor: 1. The value of prayer for all decisions, even for funds needed. 2. Dependance on the Lord and not on human efforts. 3. The need of being an evangelist and a missionary to people that don't know Christ. 4. The need to have a servant's heart in ministry.

Inspiring and divine!

This story was wonderfully told. The power of prayer was manifested in this man's story from the first page to the last. An easy read that made me remember the importance of fulfilling the Great Commission. Anyone who wishes to spread the wonderful news of Jesus Christ should read this book! So, everyone should read it!!

Enjoyed his thoughts & experiences, but his humility means he left out some interesting details. I read some supplemental info to fill in the blanks.

I enjoyed reading this autobiography of J. Hudson Taylor. He was a missionary and founder of China Inland Mission. It is a brief history of his life and mission.
