I thought to myself, I liked Growing Pains. I'll read this. And then, while reading it, I thought, why can't I remember much about Growing Pains? And then I realized: it was over twenty freaking years ago!! When did I get so old?!?!?!

As a child of the '80s, I couldn't help but love this book. I remember so many of the things he talks about. I enjoyed Kirk's account of his teenage self-image issues in the midst of his teen idol status. His account of his conversion to Christianity is extraordinary. He has given up millions of dollars in order to live out his faith.

I read this for my former teenage self who was madly in love with Kirk Cameron and had posters of him all over my walls. Unfortunately he lived a fairly boring life.
Cindy
Nothing heavy, very Mike Seaver-ish, but very refreshing to read about an actor who actually came out of Hollywood unscathed, wholesome and a Christian. Maybe there's hope for my daughter in the theater world, too.

Stop judging me. The book was free and I need closure on my relationship with Kirk.
Met him this weekend and can't wait to learn about the "way of the Warrior". Book club?

By 3 star "I liked it" what I mean is "I didn't hate it" (reading fans and friends: this is generally true of my reviews)

Ok, so *maybe* I ignored my family for part of the weekend to read this. It wasn't a page turner, but the writing voice is very authentic and likeable (yes, even for an evangelical missionary). I didn

I really enjoyed this book that I found cheaply in a Philippine bookstore. I had seen the actor in several Christian movies but was unaware of his secular acting career prior to his conversion. I was encouraged by his bold testimony after his conversion as he left his secular acting career behind realising it was incompatible with his new-found faith. His strong Christian faith now is a testimony in the midst of a Hollywood that isn't the least bit interested in the things of God. It is hard to ...more

How refreshing to take a look at a celebrity standing morals and principles instead of promoting the foolishness they usually do! It's a nice peak at the life of someone who is walking with God even though it has cost him opportunities in his line of work. He wasn't afraid to make his faith walk number one... encouraging!

This was a charming read and challenging at times. It was difficult to read the chapter about Camp Firefly without tearing up. More than the first part of the book is just fun information about his life as a child star – toward the end of the book you start to really see how his faith has affected his life.

I loved this book. It was one of the best ones I watched in awhile.
His life was pretty interesting to read about. His faith on set was amazing, and how he met his wife was neat.

I recomend this for ANY Kirk Cameron fan....or chrisitan who wants a view of a actors struggles.

I LOVED this book! Kirk's wonderful sense of humor and his open, heartwarming reminesces about his younger years made this book hard to put down! I especially enjoyed the stories of how he met his wife and how he got started with the Left Behind movies. A must-read!
Rebecca
Very neat read! It was enjoyable yet very informative. It was neat to see what some of the day-to-day looks like for a movie actor. Highly recommended! Kirk Cameron has some experiences that were amazing to read about! God has His hand on this man!
Mariana
I LOVE this book. It really shows how a hollywood movie star can be so humble!

I was never a huge Kirk Cameron fan growing up. I occasionally watched Growing Pains as a kid, but it's not one of the shows that come to mind when I think of my favorite shows as a kid. (Those would be more Saved by the Bell, Full House, Boy Meets World, Roseanne, etc.) However, I am a huge fan of his sister, Candace; and after reading and loving his mom's autobiography a few years ago, I've always been curious about him.

I knew Kirk was a born-again Christian, and had always heard the rumors a

I don't often read biographies because I often find them dry and often I don't find one on someone I'm interesting in knowing more about. I picked up this autobiography from my church's library because I wanted a book to read and thought this book may be interesting. When I was younger, I would sometimes watch reruns of "Growing Pains" with my mom. Since then, I have watched several movies of Kirk Cameron's and knew a little bit about his life.

I really enjoyed this book. It had humor in it and t

I actually got this book at a conference that Kirk was speaking at. He signed my copy of it. I'll admit that I had a crush on Kirk during the 80s when I was a kid. I loved Growing Pains. As he got older, I started to admire him even more for his faith. I always wondered the true story of how he became a Christian. This book gives a look back at the Kirk of yesterday, and the Kirk of today. He's an awesome guy. I love how he talks about tormenting his younger sisters, going to auditions, and how ...more

Since I am going to hear Kirk and Chelsea speak on our marriage enrichment cruise next week (insert squeal of excitement), I enjoyed reading this story of Kirk's life. It wasn't an amazing book, and I wasn't left with any profound thoughts as a result of having read it, but I enjoyed it and it was a quick read.

I didn't have a television growing up, so I only saw a few episodes here and there of Growing Pains. I don't think of Kirk Cameron as Mike Seaver, but rather as the cutie whose face decora

Straight from his heart

I have had great admiration for Kirk and have appreciated his sharing his Faith through the movies he has participated in and the non-profit organizations he has helped create. You hope it's genuine, and after reading his autobiography, you know his Faith is real. He shares his life as a child actor, one we grew up watching on "Growing Pains". He matured fast, but fortunately he fell in love fast, with Chelsea, and they are still married with 6 kids! I pray that he will co

I've been a Kirk Cameron fan for well over a decade. Not only did I watch Growing Pains every chance I got during my last two years of elementary school, but I even adored You Lucky Dog , a Disney Channel Original movie Mr. Cameron starred in that none of my friends seemed to like. Some years later, I fell back in love with the Seavers, and finding out that Kirk was a Christian made me like him and his show all the more. I finally got my hands on his autobiography, and what did I think of it? It ...more

I liked reading Still Growing by Kirk Cameron because I liked him on the sit com, "Growing Pains," and also know he is a Christian. I was curious to find out more about his personal life.I was surprised to find out he had an atheist belief through is teens until he became a believer at age 19.In his autobiography he shares how he got into acting, how he was used to having anything he wanted, how he began to ask the questions about life, how his beliefs changed and how they affected his career an ...more

I was never a big Growing Pains fan nor a Kirk Cameron fan. I read this book because I am a devoted Christian and virtually the same age as Kirk Cameron. I know him to be dedicated Christian and was interested in his spiritual journey and view of the world as a fellow brother in Christ. Also the perspective he had through his celebrity upbringing as well as his incidents of wanting a more "moral" show once he converted. I was deeply disappointed on all levels.
This book is very scant and safe. It

If you're familiar with the old television series, Growing Pains, you'll remember Kirk Cameron, who played likable goofball, Mike Seaver, during the show's seven-year run.

In Still Growing, Kirk shares his story of growing up in a pretty regular family, with three younger sisters and parents who loved and guided them well. He tells how he was introduced to the entertainment business at the age of 9 after his friend Adam Rich (Nicholas Bradford on Eight is Enough) put the Cameron family in touch w

Ok, I have to admit, I was a die-hard Kirk Cameron fan as a teen...so much so, that I had plastered those 1 page posters of him from the Bop and Teen magazines all over one wall of my room (which would be approximately 35-40 of them). Because of that, I probably enjoyed this book more than the average person. Also, I just find it strangely fascinating to read autobiographies of stars. Their world is just SOOO foreign from my world, that it's exciting and intriguing to me. I was also interested i ...more

I watched the movie "Fireproof" starring Kirk Cameron and was impressed that he wouldn't kiss his actress-wife in the movie. It had to be his real wife. I wanted to find out more about him and how he came to be a Christian growing up in Hollywood, a sect of America that basically shuns Christianity. One scriptwriter actually told him, "Well, Kirk . . . for an actor in Hollywood, you sure picked the one unacceptable religion, didn't you?"

It's not a well written book, but I enjoyed learning what i

Kirk Cameron is a well spoken young man.

I was impressed with his well written Testimony of what God has done for him and through him. Heartwarming to read of his journey so far. The title is very appropriate. I am proud of him for making the stand he has.

God didn't compromise when he "Gave His only begotten Son" and Kirk Cameron doesn't either. It is a lesson all of us can do well to learn.

Looking forward to hearing more from Kirk.

This was a highly informative and humorous account of Kirk's life. It offers an in-depth look at what it is like to be not only a celebrity, but a teen idol and heart throb. Kirk shares about his life and all the perks, struggles and temptations that go along with celebrity. I really respect Kirk for deciding to follow God and try to please Him, rather than men. Kirk is an awesome role model who puts his faith in God and his family before his career and celebrity. A wonderful book, and a wonderf ...more

Back in the day, I had a huge crush on Kirk Cameron when he was on "Growing Pains." He definitely has had an interesting career, and I'm quite interested in reading this book. :)

Normally, I don't mind reading the memoir or autobiography of a celebrity, especially one concerning a celebrity that I find intriguing. However, after the first five chapters of this book, I struggled. Truly, I don't think I would have struggled with the book if the tonat

I loved the first part of this book and learning some neat things about the making of Growing Pains and how Kirk grew up on the set. I was one of Kirk Cameron's biggest fans for obvious reasons. I have even heard him speak at a Christian conference and was very impressed that a man from Hollywood could be so convicted. However, I found the last 1/3 of the book preachy and self-righteous. I am a Christian but probably wouldn't recommend this for a non-Christian because I think it comes off too go ...more

Sitcom child actor grows up and tells about his life in the business. I did watch Growing Pains when I was growing up, and later the Left Behind movies. It is always interesting to me to hear the background, in between stuff, especially when it comes from the horse’s mouth. I know it sounds corny, but this book did make me laugh, and cry. There were many bits I read to my husband when I was reading through the book, that made us go hunh, or even laugh. And telling my mom the story of Camp Firefl ...more

Kirk Cameron is a pretty famous actor, even though he hasn't done a ton of recent mainstream work. Recently he is known for his activism in regards to his faith and the few controversies around his actions he has taken in defense of his faith. I was excited to read this book and read his story before Growing Pains and his most recent moments.

I grew up on Growing Pains and remember hearing a few of the dramatic behind the scenes stories, so to hear his side of the story was interesting. The reade

“In this town you can be a wife-beating, manic-depressive crack-head and everyone opens their arms to you. They say, "Hey, pal, don't worry about it. We'll get you into recovery. It's all part of the journey." But if you become a born-again Christian and love Jesus Christ and want to share that with other people, they say, "You've committed the unpardonable sin.” 3 likes
