Library Journal - Library Journal
ific author of both fiction and nonfiction, Caldwell has led a long life devoted to writing and traveling. The story of his determination to become a writer makes the first portion of this autobiographya significantly revised and more personal update of Call It Experience (1951)absorbing reading, but it eventually deteriorates into a catalogue of his travels, interspersed with sometimes insightful, sometimes trivial anecdotes. He sheds little light on his works, almost never discussing the content of specific books, and the style is uneven, often flat and stilted. Followers of Caldwell, however, will want to read this work for the glimpses it provides of his personal life. Robert Aken, Univ. of Kentucky Lib., Lexington
