One of the coppers I'd just been with saw me wobbling and f***ing nicked me. In the Evening Standard the next day it said not only that I was done for drink-driving, but apparently I was at the head of a gang of 40 mods rampaging through King's Cross on our scooters. Given that I was actually arrested on a trials bike going to a Chinese takeaway, this was the first time I had to face up to the shocking realisation that even the most reputable newspapers don't always tell the truth'
